CELTIC, Lower Danube. Imitations of Thasos. Late 2nd-1st century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 17.02 g, 12 h). Celticized head of Dionysos to right, wearing ivy-wreath. Rev. [HΡ]AKΛEOΥΣ - ΣΩTHΡOΣ / ΘAΣIΩN Herakles standing front, head to left, holding club with his right hand and lion skin draped over his left arm; in inner left field, H. Dembski 1513 var. Lanz 967 var. OTA Class II/III. Nicely toned. Very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

This is an unusual imitation in that the legend is still readable, but the style is already heavily degenerated.
